Like, their statement is the silicon isn’t good enough for a gpu so they’re downclocking / undervolting it and that’s what’s being used in the dedicated mining cards. But if they can run, at all, why not bin them to a lower end gpu sku instead

I’m interested in what this is going to do to the death march toward ever better/realistic graphics. If a significant portion of your core player base can’t upgrade their graphics cards, realistically, beyond a GTX 1060 (currently the most popular card on Steam) or GTX 1660 then how will that impact developers who want to release three to five years down the line? What changes will they have to make in their planning to account for that?

What impacts will it have for developers one year out from release on PC who have banked on their core player base having better graphics hardware? What changes/optimizations will they need to make in order to avoid running like dogshit on older than expected hardware?
