I’m trying to dress better but I don’t really know where to buy things, give me tips

Step one: Do not give a shit, just go wild like its an avatar in a video game you don’t care very much about

be attractive

hello
im not really a normie fashion expert
mostly i buy clothes that i think have cool fabric or colors

my recommendation to start out would to be get some $200 jeans
some good brands are: momotaro, studio d’artisan, pure blue japan, samurai jeans, oni denim, etc
basically anything these guys cover
https://www.okayamadenim.com/
https://www.denimio.com/
both of these ship from japan so they don’t have scalper US prices like https://www.selfedge.com/

some examples of cool stuff:
okayama denim is doing pre-orders for these jeans with an interesting fabric+dye
OD_PBJ-Kakishibu-Super-Rough-Jeans-13_1024x1024.webp

these foxfibre jeans are rly cool. i have some and they are super comfortable. they’re undyed but the cotton is colored
https://www.okayamadenim.com/products/pre-order-studio-dartisan-15oz-foxfibre-organic-selvedge-color-jeans?_pos=17&_sid=d2c1f1859&_ss=r

if you’re new to fancy denim i’d suggest doing some research into the sizing. for example raw unsanforized jeans shrink a lot on the first wash. also don’t worry about not washing them, that’s just a meme. wash your jeans when they smell bad or get dirty

another place i’d recommend is Gustin. they have a unique business model where it’s kind of like crowdfunding an item so you buy it before they make it but it’s way cheaper
https://www.weargustin.com/store
the downside is you have to wait but they do have some stock available every once in a while https://www.weargustin.com/stock
i have some shirts and jackets and a briefcase from them are they are v good for the price

something ive been getting into recently is italian designer shit. its super expensive new but buying old stuff is cheap. i picked up some pink Isaia jeans and they’re so comfy and awesome. you can find them on some random sites, i usually sort price low->high and just look thru all of the stuff
https://topshelfapparel.com/collections/pants?sort_by=price-ascending
this is the white ver of the pink ones i have https://topshelfapparel.com/collections/pants/products/isaia-white-selvedge-denim-jeans

besides that i tend to buy shirts and stuff from japanese companies that make jeans and stuff. you can find them on okayama denim or denimio
generally i try to go for cotton 100%, or a natural fiber blend. linen looks kewl but it’s super wrinkly so you need an iron and im lazy

welp thats about all i can think of rn

bird on skateboard

expensive clothes tend to have a lot of little details that don’t really matter, but the fact that the brand cares enough to add them means they’re probably high quality
for example selvage on jeans is just a little accent when you cuff it, but in general selvage jeans are better than those without
i like shirts with chin straps b/c it fits nice and tight but it doesnt matter that much. but u know if its got one theyre trying hard

Do you have any advice in terms of what people should do when they are trying to develop or find their style?

stuck in a quandre

Hmmm, I’m kind of in a conundrum. Normally I don’t care about what I wear and so I usually just buy a pack of cheap t-shirts and wear those, and I wear the same pants all the time. But I think it’s putting people off irl, if I dress like a contemporary conformist I think it would make people like me more in a shallow way especially because that’s “well-dressed” where I am and it would make people feel better about themselves when interacting with me - because it would make them feel like they are the type of person to interact with a “well-dressed” person.

I want to not care about what other people think, but I also want to care about how other people feel. Unfortunately, I’ve spent so little time on my personal relationships that if I want to grow my social circle now then I have to interact with a lot of strangers and that means caring about how other people feel is the same as caring about what other people think. I just don’t have enough people that know me well enough to not care what I dress like.

What do you think Tiko?

Or maybe a better way to put it is, why do you dress the way you do Tiko? What makes you buy clothes and wear them?

I just find brands I like and roll w them

all my jeans are from express bc they fit me well and are super comfortable and slightly stretchy

target brand Pair of Thieves makes the comfiest underwear and undershirts (I wear the undershirts v neck or crew neck as regular shirts also) bc they’re so comfy

I’m an adidas fanboy so I own a lot of adidas shoes/jackets/joggers/sweatpants

north face for coats cause I’m basic

all my dress shirts and suits are also from express

I own some cool graphic tees I like vintage stuff or cool stuff from the thrift store I also own some BFMs cause I’m gay

for work pants I discovered Wrangler Atx or atg or something they’re super lightweight and comfortable and perfect for my use of them so that’s all I wear for work pants

under armor for basketball shorts

I chose these brands cause they’re comfy and nice and I don’t look like a bum idk I hope this helps but I don’t understand what your problem is

maybe the trick is just knowing what fits you well/how stuff is supposed to fit and knowing what looks good on you

cause sometimes really “nice” expensive stuff fits u like trash and is a terrible option while something cheap might become a key article for u

I’m a fan of silhouettes of outfits first, comfort second, then aesthetic, and I generally don’t entertain cheap shitty options bc it’s harder to find those 3 things in Walmart brand although I admit there could be exceptions

The number one first step is probably to start wearing clothes that actually fit correctly. I wore oversized clothes all through my youth. Now I wear a small and look much better and more ‘fashionable’. Once you’re a little more used to the idea of your own body and how stuff looks when it actually fits to it you can probably take it from there and start finding things you enjoy. Just take it one step at a time and don’t be afraid to look different.

ive bought a few pairs from gustin when they run weird fabrics and i think theyre p good

i bought a pair of 19oz from them and wear them p much every day at work and theyve held up real good

ive bought one set of their shirts when they did some polos with some rainbow neps in them and while theyre good i dont know if i would pay that much for them again.

might buy one of the 10oz flannels that are up right now though.

i also buy a decent amount of N&F since they run a lot of wacky fabrics too

i think it’s probably true that dressing “nicely” makes people nicer to you like, superficially. but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. imo it’s a good idea to make a good first impression. people can get to know you later

i mostly wear the stuff i do because i like how it looks. sorry that’s not really a helpful answer lolz
it’s also a bit of collection kind of habit too. i’ll grab weird fabrics just to have one or see what it’s like
it’s also fun to experiment with new kinds of pieces. like i’m trying to get into nice shoes rn so i bought some oxfords and some boots etc

Skinny guy is way too skinny for me. I tried one pair of easy guys too and while they fit just right below the knee they’re just wayyyy too lose in the thighs. I like weird guy because it’s pretty much just slim straight. Depending on the release I have to order anything between 33 and 36 though it’s really annoying. Those pink jeans own I would love to do those. I thought really hard about getting the friendship denim that N&F did but decided against it. I would do the burgundy + pink if it was me for sure. Posting on mobile is weird cause return just posts ugh

I’m scared to order $300 jeans cause I’m scared they won’t fit

the nice thing about jeans is they stretch lolz
i picked up some samurai jeans recently and fucked up and got 1 size to small but after wearing them around the house for a while they’re fine
but yeah sizing can be annoying for sure

Sizing is definitely rough
If you’ve got a pair of jeans that you really like the fit of just measure them and compare to size charts accordingly but that’s really the best advice I can give you.

If you’re a prime member I know that there’s a decent amount of N&F on prime wardrobe. I think that there are some nudies up as well. It might be worth trying that way to start out with. You’ll probably have to look at size charts on Tate and yoko still though

The OJ way™

true prime makes it easy af to return if I have to

friend

idg how this waist measurement works??? my belt from top of buckle to most used hole is 41” so that’s like my real waist size. when I measure my size 34 jeans straight across it’s like 17”

none of these numbers make sense on the charts

friend

You don’t measure the belt from the top of the buckle you measure from where the leather starts

However if you’re measuring your jean waistband at a true 34 I would just order in that size range. The belt will measure a little more because there’s fabric between it and your waist making it a little bigger.

Honestly I think the thigh measurement is more important than anything. It’s usually measured two inches down from the crotch for size charts. Might not be as important for you though since you’re a skinny boi

The OJ way™

I’m fat

friend

I got sick of googling shit so I just ordered size 34 weird guy left hand twill

I’ll let u know how it goes

soaking jeans is a meme right I can just treat these like whatever

friend

nice. glhf

bird on skateboard

thx

friend

worried they’ll be a lil tight but u saying jeans stretch made me feel better about it

like the jeans I wear are 34 but they stretch a bit to get there and I don’t like the look in the thigh of the same brand 36

hopefully this works out

friend

unless its unsanforized i never soak and i only do it then so i dont forget and wash them and wonder why they shrank so dang much

also post fit pix
